In August 2010, Michelle Hewitt and Michael D'Onofrio will trek the Kokoda Track to raise funds for Legacy's vital work. The track stretches for 92 km through Papua New Guinea's most rugged, spectacular and wild jungle, and was the scene of a terrible and bloody battle between Australian and Japanese soldiers in 1942.

In their own physical and mental feat of endurance, Michael and Michelle will walk the ground and study the history behind each day of the battle. In doing so, they hope to discover and appreciate the mateship, courage and endurance required of the inexperienced young men who went on to achieve the impossible.

Walking in the footsteps of these heroes, Michelle Hewitt and Michael D'Onofrio will pay homage to the experiences of the once-young men who sacrificed and survived against terrible odds. To honour the memories of the fallen and the others who suffered so much, all proceeds of this fundraising trek will go to care for the widows and families of Australia's veterans, including Kokoda veterans.

Through our support of Michael and Michelle, we now have the opportunity to honour the service and sacrifice of all Australian veterans and their families. Please sponsor this trek or attend one of the many fundraising events organised to support this trek. All money raised goes directly to Legacy, and donations over $2 are tax deductible.
